You have the opportunity to visit Spaceport America on Friday, January 24th, 2025.   As a part of the visit, you will tour the Spaceport America and see the Air Force Thunderbirds as they practice.

In order for the visit to happen, we need to know the numbers for those that plan to attend.  If you plan to attend, please email zoe.finholm@nmt.edu by Thursday, December 12th that you will attend.  Snacks, lunch, and a shuttle will be provided to and from Spaceport America.

The schedule for Friday, January 24th is:

8:00am Meet at Fidel Roundabout to get on shuttle

8:15am Leave campus

10:00am Arrive at Spaceport America (tour, view Thunderbirds, snacks and lunch provided)

3:45pm Leave Spaceport America

5:00pm Arrive back on campus

NIH SEED

Are you an academic or small business life science innovator looking for free entrepreneurship trainingSubmit your request for the NIH Entrepreneurship Bootcamp by Friday, December 20, to learn about:

  • The customer discovery process to assess customer and stakeholders needs
  • How to develop stronger business models and market strategies
  • How to validate commercialization plans

Eligibility

  • Submissions must include a team of at least two people
    • A technical lead with expertise in the proposed project area
    • A business lead who is interested in learning how to assess whether the innovation presents a compelling commercialization opportunity
  • Each team member must commit to spending 10-20 hours/week for webinars, coaching, and coursework over 7 weeks

If you have an active SBIR/STTR award (including no cost extension) during the course, your team is not eligible for this program. (Active SBIR/STTR Phase I awardees are eligible for other programs.)

Federal Resume Writing Workshop

The Experienced Federal Workers Special Emphasis Program (E-Feds) and the US. Office of Personnel Management are hosting a webinar for all who are interested to learn how to update and improve your federal resume for career development. In the case that students couldn’t attend informational webinars presented by EPA Region 6, this would be a great alternative to learn about federal resumes. VT EPSCoR Summer Research Internship

Vermont EPSCoR is offering summer research internship opportunities for our cutting-edge NSF-funded project, Harnessing the Data Revolution for Vermont: The Science of Online Corpora, Knowledge, and Stories (SOCKS). This five-year, interdisciplinary initiative aims to better understand and harness the power of stories which are essential tools for how people comprehend, explain, predict, and navigate the world. SOCKS advances the Digital Humanities by creating innovative methods to quantify individual stories and their ecosystems using data collection, natural language processing, and large language models. 
The VT ESPCoR SOCKS Summer Research Internship program allows students to engage in research associated with the NSF EPSCoR award. The interns are paired with research teams working within the transdisciplinary SOCKS program. At the end of the internship, the teams come together for a symposium to share their findings through oral presentations and written reports. Students can expect a full-time, high-impact, hands-on research experience for 10 weeks in one of the following areas: 
 
  • Indigenous Narratives and Storytelling in Global Environmental Governance 
  • Data Ethics, Privacy and Belief Propagation 
  • Migration Narratives and Social Media Discourse – how they shape our understanding of climate change-driven migration 
  • Analysis of local news stories and programs 
  • Understanding and Promoting Human Connection in Serious Illness 
  • Language Analysis of Trauma Survivors’ Narratives

Western Governors' Leadership Institute

 

Dedicated to building a brighter future through hard work, integrity, and a strong bipartisan ethos, current and former Western Governors are seeking passionate and motivated young leaders to represent their state, territory, or tribe at the 2025 Western Governors' Leadership Institute (WGLI), a project of the Western Governors’ Foundation. Please see, attached, the 2025 application along with this year’s flyer.

ABOUT:

This program is designed to recognize, reward, and promote the effective exercise of leadership by young adults across the West. Every year the foundation selects young adults to represent their states, territories, and tribes as institute delegates. Delegates attend a one-day leadership development forum featuring intimate conversations with Governors, chief executive officers, and other prominent thought leaders. They also attend the Annual Meeting of the Western Governors’ Association as guests of WGF. The foundation covers all expenses associated with delegate participation.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants for the Leadership Forum must be between the ages of 21 and 26 years old on June 22, 2025. They must also be permanent residents of western states or territories whose Governor is an active member of WGA: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Enrolled members of Federal and State Recognized Tribes living in the West are also eligible to apply.

Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Advisory Committee

The application period for the Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Advisory Committee is now open. The Department of Transportation and FAA will select at least 25 leaders to serve on the committee and its members will range from business leaders to aviation specialists and experts. We need your help to spread the word and encourage individuals to apply.

In honor of the women in aviation history, the FAA is proud to establish the Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Advisory committee to promote the recruitment, retention, employment, education, training, career advancement, and well-being of women in the aviation industry and aviation-focused Federal civil service positions. The work of the committee will help continue the legacy of innovators, like Bessie Coleman, who revolutionized their disciplines within aviation.

Members of the committee will utilize their experiences and talents to develop innovative recommendations. Our success comes from encouraging a diverse collection of voices to contribute to the conversation.

Join the groundbreaking movement to address the needs and opportunities in aviation, as well as help drive positive change in the industry. Those selected for membership will be able to collaborate with aviation experts, as well as maximize their unique experiences and creative approaches to advance the committee’s goals. The committee will meet at least twice a year to develop actionable plans and recommendations to attract and retain more women into aviation careers.

This is a valuable opportunity to help shape the future of women and girls in the aviation industry.

Master in Economic Research and PhD in Economics Programs

The Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education – Economics Institute (CERGE-EI) located in Prague, Czech Republic, invites students to apply for admission to the programs Master in Economic Research and PhD in Economics.

Master in Economic Research is a 2-year western-style program designed for students interested in applied economic research and public policy. The aim of this program is to prepare students for their careers in public policy institutions (central banks, ministries, government advisory bodies), international organizations, think-tanks, and private sector companies. Graduates receive a Czech degree fully accredited by Charles University.
 
PhD in Economics is a Western-style program designed for outstanding students interested in economic research who desire a rigorous graduate education in Economics at a prestigious international institution. Similar to top Western institutions, the program consists of two years of MA-level coursework and two or more years of dissertation research. Graduates receive both US and Czech doctoral degrees. The students receive a living stipend.

Waterbird Surveys

Interested in wildlife? Come help the Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge conduct waterbird surveys and get to see the closed areas of the refuge where a variety of wildlife, such as elk and badgers, call it home.
Responsibilities include:

  • Driving to Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge
  • Conducting surveys monthly or bi-monthly starting at sunrise
